When I was younger, I had a set of knights that I think I played with more than any other toys I had growing up. That changed once having video game consoles if that is considered a toy. I really don’t think video game consoles are toys because I still play them. Recently I had remembered those knights and wondered why they were my favorites. I think it was because of how detailed they were. They were so realistic. I had roughly 12 of them, all different and all favorites from one time to another for different reasons but I think the main reason was the attention to detail by whoever made them.
The above picture isn’t the same brand or kind I had but very similar. After some further research I found out that they were circa 1971 Britain Deetail figures. I remember finding these at the old toy stores in the malls that might have been Kay-Bee toy stores or the stores that turned into Kay-Bee toy stores. I remember seeing them locked up in glass display cases and always wanting them, but I think they were somewhat expensive. They were also rare because they would only get some in every so often.
They were roughly the size of a Bic cigarette lighter, and they had soldiers from all eras, but it was the knights that I was drawn to.
Now being a few years older I am still very fond of details. I realize that even in video games I want and prefer the best graphics possible. Maybe it is because I lived through some of the worst video game graphics. Drawings or paintings I like some minimalist works, but I love the detailed works that I can look at for hours and see something new or different every few thoughts. I might even like some music that might be detail orientated. Music that has layers that you might hear something different every listen.
So now I am curious. Is this a guy thing? Is it a child thing? Is it a specific person thing? Please share this post if you like what it made you think about and reply with what your favorite toy was growing up and why. I look forward to any and all feedback.
